The Best Odyssey is back on the ocean blue. We've just finished our 3rd Epic of the year plying the waters off northern Venezuela from Margarita to Los Roques, including the jewel of Tortuga. It is an extraordinary landscape that rivals any cruising area I've yet explored. While the winds were lighter than expected and hoped for, we still managed to kite 12 out of 14 days, many at sunset and sunrise or under the full moon as the hot arid land creates a sea breeze effect very late in the day. The remote feel, long expanses of white sand and pure, turqoise waters made for one of the finest trips in my sailing career.

Los Roques

I write this as Discovery, Nico and I are underway back to Puerto La Cruz to begin our next 15 day Epic through the same area with guest Best rider Miguel Willis. Jody detoured back to Caracas from Los Roques to pick up our tow winch, which brings paragliding to the mix on those lighter days. We are now a fully functional kitesurfing/paragliding/surfing/spearfishing/kick ass adventure boat.

Our big wave, all-pro invitational is shaping up this January in Bocas Del Toro, Panama. The list has not been finalized, but the guest-list thus far includes: Pete Cabrinha, Robby Naish, Raphael Salles, Will James, Ben Wilson, Reo Stevens, Josh Mulcoy, Chris Wyman, and Joao Pedro Simonson. We'll be filming and photographing the event and look forward to pioneering this incredible area.

We've added two new owners to The Best Odyssey this month. Our first female owner and good friend, Denise Lund from Australia and Martin Stockl from San Francisco. Welcome! We've also opened up the 08' season in the South Pacific and will shortly have our year 2 finalized through the Galapagos, French Polynesia, Cook islands, Tonga and Samoa.
