By: Gavin McClurg, CEO of Offshore Odysseys and Founder, The Best Odyssey and The Cabrinha Quest
This amazing expedition is carrying on in the style that we have become known for across the globe with a skipper who is as passionate as I am about sharing this amazing world with a few fortunate and motivated people.
The Cabrinha Quest is the culmination and continuation of the most experienced team in ocean-based expeditions. On The Best Odyssey we kitesurfed 148 virgin locations. Visited more than 50 countries. Sailed 54,000+ miles. Needless to say, we learned a lot and there isn't anyone who knows more than we do about where to go to find true adventure. We've refined what works, completely rebuilt Discovery from the ground-up to operate at nearly carbon neutral. More wild, more remote, more radical...with less impact.
Captain and Operations Director, Seon Crockford

This expedition is about living, it is about going for your dreams and making them a reality.
I was born in Sydney Australia, son of a boat builder. The first 8 years of my life were spent sailing the east coast of Australia with my family while living aboard a 37ft catamaran. Naturally I took to watersports and was sailing dingies and windsurfing from the age of 6. At the age of 16 I attained my speed boat drivers license and PADI open water diving cert, and at age 20 my first commercial Captains ticket.
It was at this time that kitesurfing was just starting to develop in Australia (late 1999). This amazing sport became a number one passion and in just 2 short years I was semi pro, and competing with the best in the country.
I was then off to explore the world; new cultures, new tastes, and new experiences. To fund my wanderlust I started working aboard luxury yachts. I have worked professionally in every position aboard a diverse range of vessels all over the world.
In 2009 I applied for a position aboard The Best Odyssey. I really wanted Gavin's position as Captain but he wouldn't have it!
I know exactly why I am doing this. Some opportunties only come along once in a lifetime, a when they do you have to take them and give them your best. Life is about experience and in the end the only thing that will matter is how well you lived. Did you give life 100% or did you just watch it pass you by?
I look forward to welcoming you aboard S.V Discovery, and sharing the adventure in what will be a truly remarkable life experience.
My qualifications include a Master of yachts 200 ton ticket, PADI rescue diver, Wilderness first responder, and CPR / First Aid.
Chef

The Cabrinha Quest is as much a culinary experience as a kiteboarding, surfing, paragliding, and sailing expedition. We take food very seriously and our chef, Bobby Sofyadi from Bali is the best we had on The Best Odyssey- so we're bringing him back! Bobby is bar none one of the finest chefs, and finest people on this planet. He is a master at his craft and makes each and every day on board Discovery magical. He combines a lifelong background of Asian specialties and a fine appreciation and knowledge for ethnic cuisines from around the world.
