Airlie Beach to Townsville via Whitsunday Islands

Trip Days Ports of Call Dates
189 10 Airlie Beach and Townsville Aug 7 - Aug 16, 2017
We start this one off at the jumping off point to the Whitsunday islands. Crowds and tourists there will be, but a day out and we'll have paradise to ourselves. This trip has a bit of everything- gorgeous islands, then we head offshore and tag a bunch of the Great Barrier reef atolls and reef systems (diving anyone?) and the wind should be blowing solidly the whole time- if you come home with nice soft hands and no tan you've blown it! My goodness there are a lot of options! The color of the water alone should put everyone is a blissful trance for 10 days, which is going to make this one pretty easy on the crew. Islands Islands Islands everywhere! For those of you who are dying for 10 days of solid kiting, this trip, the one before, and the next couple reside right in the heat of the tradewind season and should have plenty of wind on offer. Put some sun block on and lets do this!

"Aside from being the jump-off point for the dreamy Whitsunday Islands, Airlie Beach is a backpacker's good-time town of the highest order, with cavernous bar/hostels lining the bright main drag and a lawn-surrounded swimming lagoon just beyond for sleeping it all off. But the 2014 opening of the new, slick Port of Airlie marina, hotel and restaurant complex is an unmissable sign that the village is going more upscale; there are now more options than ever to attract older, more sophisticated travellers wanting a little of the wild life before lifting anchor for the serenity of the sparkling seas and jungle-clad isles in the distance. Those looking to avoid the party scene all together will have no trouble finding quieter lodgings near town." - Lonely Planet

"Spread majestically through the Coral Sea, the sandy fringes of these 74 islands disappear into beautiful shades of crystal, aqua, blue and indigo ocean. Sheltered by the Great Barrier Reef, there are no crashing waves or deadly undertows, and the waters are particularly perfect for sailing. Of the numerous stunning beaches and secluded bays, Whitehaven Beach stands out for its pure white silica sand. It is undoubtedly the finest beach in the Whitsundays, and many claim, in the world. It's great for a day trip if your budget only allows for one splurge to the islands." - Lonely Planet

Getting there: International flight to Brisbane or better yet Townsville, then make your way via car, bus or domestic flight to Airlie Beach. We'll pick you up at the marina and drop you off in Townsville, which is the access point to some really seriously cool parts of Australia- you might want to stay awhile.
