On this trip, you have a chance to visit 3 atolls, Fakarava, Arutua, and Rangiroa, sailing, and fishing between them. This is a pretty spectacular part of the world, World-class lagoon kiting, exciting waves, and an amazing underwater world in the reef passes. If you were looking for a place that defines our sport, look no further than these remote atolls in the Tuamotus. This trip has two sailing days.
Fakarava is one of the largest circular reefs in the world and gets a few dozen tourists who come for world-class diving. Toau, is even less-visited, a much smaller jewel whose only real industry is black pearl farming. A bit of everything along the way, sailing, lagoon kiting, remote places, waves, fishing, and spectacular marine life. Imagine a 30-mile-long lagoon of silky water, clear and aquamarine in color, 25-knot winds and you've just about got it. Rangiroa has the second-largest circular reef in the world. Two of the most famous diving passes are within minutes of the airport, where very special encounters with Pacific Manta Rays (the BIG ones!) and hammerhead sharks are common. Exciting small motus (islands) are hidden within this atoll for us to discover.
The best time of the year in the Tuamotus for wind and weather is June - October. During this time it is the dry season and we have reliable trades.
Getting there: International flight to Papeete, Tahiti (PPT) on United, or Air Tahiti Nui, then domestic on Air Tahiti to Fakarava Atoll and return flight to Papeete from Rangiroa.
