Mamanucas, Fiji Adventures II

Cloudbreak. Namotu. Tavarua. Maybe the quintessential breaks and islands in all the Pacific. The best surfers from around the world test their skills on these leeward isles in Fiji. It's a place where memories are made. Dreams fulfilled... Clean Antarctic winter swells hit these islands unhindered in their long migration across the Pacific. If you've seen Castaway, it was filmed in the Mamanucas, a group of islands and reefs off the SE coast of Fiji's main island, Viti Levu, just south of the Yasawas.

Enchanting isles, to be sure. They are just a very short sail (14 miles) from Nadi, the international airport, so you can jump right into the fun. This is not as remote or exotic, maybe as some of our itineraries, but it has all the ingredients for serious fun. Beach bar-b-ques with fellow cruisers, incredible lagoon kiting, kava ceremonies, and, if you're up for it- seriously good waves.

Getting there: There are a number of ways to get to Fiji. Fiji Airways, Air New Zealand, or United Airlines. International flights arrive in Nadi on the west coast.
